The LANAP Procedure

LANAP is an FDA-approved laser surgery used to treat gum disease that offers successful outcomes, less discomfort, and a faster recovery period. Dr. Almasri consults with each of his patients before recommending this treatment to ensure they’re good candidates.
Utilizing a soft tissue laser, Dr. Almasri will kill disease-causing bacteria hidden within the pockets of the gums to stop the infection from progressing. This is often preferred over antibiotic treatment as there’s no way for bacteria to adapt to continue thriving. The laser will then be used to remove severely damaged gum tissue, leaving only the healthy tissue behind to reattach to the dental structure and protect the roots of the teeth.
Benefits of LANAP

LANAP gum disease therapy offers countless benefits that make it the preferred treatment among patients. Some of these advantages include:
- Significantly Less Discomfort: Despite being a surgical treatment, LANAP therapy doesn’t involve using a scalpel and sutures. It also cauterizes the area on-contact, minimizing any bleeding and drastically reducing discomfort during and after treatment.
- Shorter Treatment: LANAP laser therapy only takes about two two-hour visits as well as follow-up appointments to ensure the best results. The precision of the soft tissue laser makes this procedure much more efficient and effective.
- Longer-Lasting Results: Studies show that 95% of patients who receive LANAP laser therapy remain stable after five years.
- Shorter Recovery Time: In many cases, patients who receive this procedure don’t have to take time off of work to recover because they feel they can return to their daily routine after about 24 hours. The dental laser used decreases swelling and pain compared to traditional surgical intervention, which can take anywhere from two to four weeks to recover from.
- Safe for All Patients: Laser gum disease therapy is safe for patients who are immunocompromised, including those with diabetes, HIB, hemophilia, or those who are on certain medications, like Coumadin or Cyclosporin.
